João C. Ferreira
João C. Ferreira is a full Professor at Molde University College. He has over 30 years of experience in applied digital technologies. His research focuses on artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and their integration into healthcare, smart cities, energy, and intelligent transportation systems. He has authored more than 240 publications (Google Scholar), including 209 indexed in Scopus, with over 4,700 citations and an h-index of 34. Regarding journal quality, he has published 55 articles in Q1 journals, 23 in Q2, 18 in Q3, and 8 in Q4, with 15 of his Q1 articles appearing in top 5% journals. He has led or participated in more than 40 research projects (6 as Principal Investigator), received three best paper awards at international Scopus-indexed conferences, and is the author of a national patent in the area of edge computing for fishing vessel monitoring systems. He is an IEEE Senior Member, served as President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Portugal Chapter (2016–2018), and has acted as Guest Editor for several journals.
Bruno Mataloto
Bruno Mataloto is an Assistant Professor at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon and a researcher at ISTAR. He received his Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology in 2024, focusing on IoT, digital twins, and intelligent environments. His research interests include healthcare IoT, remote monitoring, blockchain, digital identity, data interoperability, and distributed systems. He has published in international journals and conferences and has experience developing sensor-based, low-power, and interoperable IoT solutions for healthcare, urban, and logistical applications.
Diogo Freitas
Diogo Freitas holds a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in Data Science from ISCTE, where he researches the visual recognition of idiomatic expressions using multimodal models. He also completed a Cybersecurity Specialization at ISCTE Executive Education, focusing on threat identification, vulnerability mitigation, and enterprise security architectures. Leveraging practical experience in programming, machine learning, and data-driven solutions, Diogo applies proactive defense and security-by-design principles to analytical models. His technical expertise is reinforced by a robust international certification pathway, including CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH v13), ISO/IEC 27001 Foundation, and NIS 2. His work integrates AI, computer vision, NLP, multimodal systems, blockchain technology, and offensive cybersecurity to solve complex, real-world challenges.
João Francisco Botas
João Francisco Botas is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science at ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, after completing his Bachelor's degree in the same field. He has developed a strong background in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and the development of intelligent systems to address real-world challenges. As a Research Assistant at ISTAR–ISCTE, his research interests include technology-enhanced learning and digital health, with the application of AI to unstructured data, particularly through speech, text, and Computer Vision. His current work explores the use of AI and emerging digital technologies to support innovation in education and healthcare fields.
